Paved hiking trails can be hard to find, but the Anna Ruby Falls Trail near Helen, Georgia fits the bill perfectly. This trail is located within Unicoi State Park, and although it's only 0.8 miles to the top, the terrain is quite steep at some points. Not only is this hike dog-friendly if your pet is on a leash, but the paved trail also means it's wheelchair and stroller accessible so your whole family can enjoy it together.
Your hike will begin by a visitor's center where you can pick up a map and other information about Unicoi State Park. Shortly after you start your trek, you'll also cross a bridge where you can get an up-close view of the creek that lies underneath it.
During your entire hike, you'll be surrounded by green trees and other beautiful sights, but you'll also get to hear rushing waterfalls the whole way, too. The steepest portion of the trail is at the beginning, but as soon as you complete that part, you'll find benches where you can catch your breath.
Although the hike is steep, the reward is the astounding Anna Ruby waterfalls at the top. The falls are sure to take your breath away if the hike hasn't done so already, and this is a pawfect place to stop for a photo with your dog! There are several seating areas near the falls where your family can sit and catch their breath or enjoy a picnic.
You'll head back down the way you came -- you're advised to take the descent slowly, as the steep incline can be taxing on your knees.
Visitors are asked to supply their own doggie bags and to always clean up after their pets. Be sure to bring your own drinking water as well.
The Anna Ruby Falls Trail is a delightful, family-friendly hike that you can complete with your pet in only an hour. This busy and pawpular trail is a great way to experience all that Georgia has to offer!
