If your pooch is in the mood for a mellow walk in nature, grab the leash and head over to the Antonelli Pond Trail. This quiet path is located on a beautiful slice of nature that’s located right above Natural Bridges State Beach.
Antonelli
Pond is nestled on a 19 acre patch of land. The medium size body of water is
fed by Moore Creek, creating a delightful riparian habitat. Your pooch will
love trotting along the park’s trail and sniffing the new smells. Follow the dirt
path as it winds through the shrubs and runs along the shore. It almost makes a
complete loop around the pond, but the northern end is interrupted with
railroad tracks. Keep your pooch safe and avoid crossing the tracks to the
other side of the pond.
The
pond and creek create an ideal environment for feathered friends. As you stroll
around the freshwater pond, keep your eyes and ears open for ducks, herons,
egrets, blackbirds, and warblers. If you do encounter birds, make sure your pup
minds their manners and doesn’t chase them. Some folks bring rods and reels and
spend an afternoon trying to catch bluegill and bass. You may even see a raft on
the water.
There
is not a designated parking lot, but you can park near the entrance on Delaware
Avenue. There is a clean up bag dispenser in the park, but bring a couple bags from
home, just in case it’s empty. This is a pupular dog walking trail, so your pup
will probably have the chance to make a new furry friend while cruising around.
Be sure to have some water and a bowl on hand and give your dog a water break
or two. No bones about it, a walk on Antonelli Pond Trail will make your pup
one happy hound!
