If you're living in Whiskeytown or even just visiting the area, the Brandy Creek Falls Trail is a must do trek with your fur baby. What better reward can you get at the end of a trek than five stunning waterfalls? This trailhead is not the easiest to locate, however. You'll find it by driving up Brandy Creek Road until you reach the Sheep Camp junction. Keep left and continue for around three-quarters of a mile, and you'll come across some huge boulders blocking the road. That's the end of the road, and the parking is on the right.Â
You'll need to have your fur buddy on leash from when you leave the car until you return. To hit the trail, just walk around the boulders and carry on up the closed road for around a hundred and fifty feet. You'll see the trailhead sign for Brandy Creek Falls on your left. Once you and your pup have hit the trail, you'll be hiking through shady woodlands of oak, cedar, and fir which has an abundant ground covering of moss and ferns. You and your pup will feel as if you're trekking through a fantasy inspired forest. It's pawsomely beautiful, and a moderate climb which both of you will manage easily. Don't wander off the trail though- this is bear country, so make plenty of noise as you hike.Â
About a mile into the trail, you'll cross over a bridge and head downhill into a small canyon. You and your pup will be energized by the sound and sight of the lower falls cascading down over the rocks. Take a break, take some photos and give your fur buddy a drink. When you're ready, head up the stone steps for the last quarter of a mile to the higher falls. You'll need to take care with your footing on the steps as they can be slippery, but there's a handrail for you to cling on to. Your pup will take them all in his stride. Sometimes having four legs is a major advantage. Enjoy the sight of the fifty-foot waterfall; it is truly puptastic! Â
