Description

Are you and your pup itching for a unique hiking adventure in northeastern California? Look no further than the Chamber Creek Trail in the town of Belden. You will not be disappointed spending some quality time with your fur-ever friend here.

Located in the Plumas National Forest, you and Fido will begin your adventure at the trailhead situated just across the street from Indian Jim Elementary School. Get ready for a climb as this trail almost immediately starts its ascent just off the parking area. The entire journey is 8.4 miles as this is a 4.2-mile out-and-back trail. It is rated as moderate, so it is not the best choice for the newbie pup-hiker.

The beginning of the trail does not offer much shade, but is beautifully dotted with an assortment of wildflowers and prairie grasses on either side. However, you will soon be in the shade of the forest, which offers a reprieve from the hot summer sun. The path the entire way is either a dirt footing or tree bark, making a comfortable bed to ease Fido’s paws. There are numerous opportunities to see the area’s native wildlife here.

At the half-way point, you will be treated to a 4000’ cascading waterfall and bridge as you cross Chambers Creek, offering picture-perfect views and cooler temperatures from the air coming off the rushing water. Be sure to snap a photo of your pawtastic pup for some memories of your hike together.

It is advised to keep Fido on leash if you encounter wildlife or others, but because this is a less-travelled trail, it is not required. There are no restrooms or fountains to access water, so be sure to pack plenty before you leave. Offer your pup plenty of rest breaks along your trek, escpecially in the warmer temperatures.

Chamber Creek Trail offers scenic beauty and a moderate challenge like no other.  Check it out today!
