If you and your pooch are feeling adventurous and don't mind getting a little lost, hit the trails in Condon Park! A favorite spot among locals, this 80-acre site on the southwestern edge of the city contains a number of facilities for two- and four-legged visitors to enjoy.
Condon Park offers over 3.5 miles of main trails, plus some more miles of secondary paths. The trails are not named and only a few markers are available, so get ready to do some serious exploring with Fido! Many of the trails in the western portion of the park also intersect with the connecting paths and fairways on the 18-hole disc golf course. The lack of signage and maze-like complexity of the trails haven't stopped walkers, runners, and bikers from using them, though—in fact, hundreds of people tackle these paths every week!
Begin your urban adventure at the main parking lot on Minnie Street, which gives you and your pooch access to both sides of the park. The eastern trails are fewer, easier to navigate, and lead to a peaceful little pond. The western trails will take you past many of the site's facilities and meander through a mixed hardwood and conifer forest with the Allison Ranch Canal flowing through it. Whichever side you pick, enjoy the natural beauty of your surroundings as you and your pup amble on mostly native soil over gently rolling terrain.
Condon Park is also home to the Dogs Run Free dog park, where Fido can meet new friends after your stroll in the woods. Remember to keep your best bud on a leash while you're out on the trails and anywhere else outside the off-leash area. Bring lots of water and doggie waste bags for cleanup, too!
For pleasant and leisurely walks with your doggo in Grass Valley, the Condon Park Trails are a pawrific choice!
Watch out for poison oak along the trails. Also, beware of discs whizzing past if you're near or on the disc golf course!
