Congress Trail

Are you and your pup vacationing in Sequoia National Park or want to take a day trip there? This spectacular California location has a terrific, less-traveled hike just waiting for you both! The Congress Trail meanders through the Sequoia trees here, and offers a lovely journey.

The trees along the trail are named after the House and the Senate, and you will also see the 4^th and 5^th largest tree in the forest. You will begin your hike at the end of Wolverton Road. Just follow signs to another trail which runs nearby called the Sherman Tree Trail. Pick up the trailhead at the parking lot for The Congress Trail here. 

Not only is The Congress Trail visited for its magnificent views of the Sequoias, but is not as crowded as the other park trails. Take this loop 3.2 miles through the Giant Forest which offers a paved path suitable for all pup-fitness levels as it is rated as easy. 

While you hike, you will feel small in stature compared to these giant wonders. Enjoy the silence and your time with pup and take lots of photos. There are beautiful plants along the way as well, and you may even spot some wildlife if you are lucky. Along the hike, you will see other trails connect, but stay on your main path to get you back where you started from. The trail is accessible all year round.

If you have any questions about the flora and fauna of the area, stop by the Giant Forest Museum on your way to the trailhead. It is just before you turn onto Wolverton Road. Your pup is welcome to accompany you throughout the park as long as they remain on leash. Please be kind and always clean up after them.
