Corral Canyon Park is a one thousand acre pet-friendly park in the Santa Monica mountains, and a pawsome place to take a hike with your fur buddy. The Corral Canyon Loop runs through two and a half miles of the park through some very diverse landscapes.
There are no admission fees to the Corral Canyon Park. You will find the trailhead to the loop, the Sara Wan Trailhead, leading off from the parking lot of the Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market and Patio Cafe. There is an $8 charge to use their lot, or you can park on the surrounding streets for free. This is a popular hike for local dog owners and parking spaces fill up fast. Get there early to make sure you find one.
The Corral Canyon Loop is a narrow, single lane, compressed dirt track which winds along the side of the canyon. Once you and your pup are on the trail, you'll be trekking through tall grasslands which morph to hillsides full of purple sage and colorful mustard. There are impressive views of the Malibu coastline right from the moment you set off too. Along the way, you'll discover some abandoned houses and the ruins of a farmstead. Your pup needs to be on their leash while you're hiking, and don't forget to bring some clean up bags as there are no dispensers on this trail.
Some parts are relatively steep, and you and your fur buddy will need to put in a little legwork to get up them. If you're there in the springtime, you'll see lots of wildflowers, but later in the year, the trail can get overgrown with thorny brush. The trail is quite exposed, and you may want to bring water and some sunscreen in sunny weather. Have a pawsome hike and enjoy those Pacific Ocean views!
