Does your hound love to hike? Then free up an afternoon and take them over to Coyote Run Trail. Situated inside Highbanks Metro Park, this puptacular trail is a great spot to spend time with your beloved Spot. They’ll absolutely love being out in nature and taking in some fresh air!
The trail begins near Green Meadows Drive. The trailhead
is adjacent to the Highbanks Metro Park Nature Center. From here, it heads east through
a forest before making a sharp turn to the north. Keep on the path as you mosey through the open
fields. Your doggo can put his nose to the ground and track all the little
critters that live in these parts. Eventually the trail veers to the left.Â
Once you reach the north end of the park, the trail
creates three consecutive loops. The first loop is the largest and begins about
a half mile from the trailhead. The second loop is quite a bit shorter and the
third loop is the shortest of all. Of course, you don’t have to follow all
three loops. If you are low on time, or your pup is low on energy, you can bypass
any of them. But if your doggo is up for it, the three loops are definitely worth
exploring!
Highbanks Metro Park has some other pawsome trails that your pup wouldn’t mind checking out. Be aware that some of them don’t allow dogs, so double check before you head out into the woods. There are some woofderful overlooks on the trail and some nice places to stop and rest. Practice good petiquette by bringing a couple clean up bags and stooping and scooping when necessary. Come well equipped with plenty of water and trail snacks so you and your pup can paws for a break.
No bones about it, your doggo will love hiking on the
Coyote Run Trail!
