If your pup is at the door holding his leash, they might just be trying to tell you something! Instead of just a stroll down the block, how about heading out for a hiking adventure? The town of Smartsville, California, offers Englebright Lake, a perfect outing for you and your fur-ever friend.
The lake runs near the Yuba River and is man-made by the Englebright Dam. There are many outdoor adventures waiting for you both here. Park at the day use area and pick up the trailheads near the main entrance to the marina launch.Â
There is a short hike to the dam to view this spectacular structure, or you can take the Point Defiance Loop located near the covered bridge, where the river and lake intersect. This loop will take you on a 2.8-mile hike which is moderately rated as it gently climbs and descends throughout your walk. You will wind through the woods and see spectacular lake views along the way.
For an easier stroll, hike along the same path the fisherman use, which lies directly on the shores of the lake. This offers almost 24 miles of hiking around the lake and is easy on the feet. Let your pup dip his paws into the refreshingly cool water as you enjoy your walk together.
The lake’s other amenities include camping and boat rentals. This unique opportunity allows pups on the rentals so you can take them for a ride and/or extend you day to an overnighter at a site in the woods along the lake!
Restrooms, drinking fountains and picnic facilities are located near the main entrance and the marina. Be sure to pack plenty of water for your hike, clean up bags, and maybe even lunch! Your pup-tastic friend must remain on leash throughout the area.
