Ignacio Valley Preserve is a 906-acre area in Novato, California with slopes, canyons, woodlands, and several different trails to explore. One such trail is the Fairway Falls Open Space Trail, and this 1.3-mile out and back trail also happens to be dog-friendly! Be sure to keep your buddy on a leash during your hike, which will typically only take about an hour to complete. The hike is considered easy and accessible for hikers of all levels. If you'd like to bring your two-legged children as well, you'll be glad to know that this hike is also kid-friendly.
The Fairway Falls Trail doesn't have picnic tables or benches along the way, but it does have doggie waste bag stations in case you forget to bring your own. Pack lots of water for you and your dog as well!
During most of the hike, you and your dog will be under tree cover which will provide comfortable shade from the hot sun. Late winter or spring is often the best time to hike this trail if you want to see the waterfall in all of its glory. When you visit in the summer, you risk the waterfall being dry, but you'll still enjoy a great hike. The path is well-maintained and clearly defined throughout, so you won't have to worry about wandering off of the trail.
Those who have tackled the Fairway Falls Trail in the past recommend wearing waterproof shoes for your journey. There are a few areas where you may have to cross the creek, and while your dog may not mind getting their feet wet, it won't be as fun for you!
Fairway Falls Open Space Trail is located near a suburban area, which means there's free street parking near the trailhead. If you visit on the weekend, it may be tricky to find parking close to the trailhead, but most of the time it's not an issue.
You and your dog are going to have a pawesome time trekking this scenic Californian trail!
Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
