Take your pooch on a peaceful hike in a birder's paradise at the Indian Tree Open Space. This property has two trails and one connector pathway that you can use to explore the forests of redwoods, Douglas firs, and occasional madrones. The reward for your climb to the ridgetop here is pawmazing views of Stafford Lake and other vistas.
To get to the property, park at the trailhead for Big Trees Trail on Vineyard Road. There are some pull-off parking spots along the road. Hike through the woods on a shaded single-track dirt pathway. The route has a steady climb up the hill. On the way up, catch sight of Stafford Lake and the surrounding hills. At the peak, you'll be in an open area that offers a southward view toward San Pablo Bay. Up here, Big Trees Trail ends, and you can turn around or connect to the Indian Tree Fire Road for additional hiking. Take the fire road track back down through the woods to Rebelo Lane and on to Vineyard Road.
The Marin County Park system allows you to bring Spot to this open space if they're on a leash. There aren't any facilities or potable water sources here, so pack refreshments for your outing. Remove and carry out any droppings left by your special pal when you visit.
The Indian Tree Open Space has a pawesome trail system where you and your pooch can get exercise while you enjoy the serenity of the area. This route sees limited traffic. Chances are good that you'll be in solitude out here. On your walk, watch for resident birds that include pileated woodpeckers, varied thrush, warblers, and hummingbirds. In some areas, you may see hawks soaring on the currents. The open part at the top of the ridge provides some stunning, unobstructed views of Mount Burdell, Rush Creek, and the Vintage Oaks Area.
