Are you from the city and looking for a change of scenery? Maybe you're from a more rural area and want to get a taste of the quiet life again. If so, Fernandez Ranch, located in Martinez, California, is the perfect hiking spot for you to explore with your furry friend!Â
The ranch has a few different options when it comes to hiking. Four trails can be found on the ranch: the Windmill Trail, the Whipsnake Trail, the Black Phoebe Trail, and the Woodrat Trail. The shortest trail of these trails is 1.7 miles long, which is a great option if you're looking for a quick hike. However, if you're looking for a longer hike, the trails can actually be combined into a couple of loop trails that will total five miles. For the average person, this hike would take about two-and-a-half hours.
Don't be in a rush to complete the hike, though. There are a few different picnic shelters located in Fernandez Ranch, so you can bring some doggy bags for you and Fido and make a day out of it.Â
Your dog is welcome to join you on the trail, and we guarantee they'll love having the opportunity to get in some off-leash exercise while the two of you explore. There are certain times your pup will need to be on their leash, though. Dogs must remain on-leash when around the picnic shelters. It's also advised that you keep your dog on their leash when approaching cattle, as the cows are easily spooked.
Please remember to bring along water for your pup, and you'll also want to have bags with you for quick and easy clean up. You should also know that restrooms aren't available for you to use.
If you're looking to experience rustic beauty while hiking with your dog, Fernandez Ranch is a pawfect getaway!
