Forestville River Access definitely doesn’t have much to offer a serious hiker, but it’s still well worth a walk! The beach at the end of this Forestville, CA trail alone is a real-mutts visit for pups who like to swim. You’ll find limited parking on River Road -- be sure to get there early in the summer, as spaces fill up very quickly. You’ll need to arrive before 10 am on the weekends to find a spot. The trail and beach area are pretty pawpular with local pooches and their people -- you most certainly won’t have the place to yourself, but there’s a good chance Fido will meet some new friends!
While the main draw to Forestville River Access is the beach at the end (a gorgeous spot on the Russian River, known to Forestville natives as "Mom’s Beach"), it’d be a real faux-paw to assume that the journey there isn’t seriously scenic -- the short path runs through gorgeous, mature trees that provide plenty of shade for you and your buddy. The route runs for only about 246 feet, though, so it won’t be long before you reach the sandy stretch, a true Sonoma County gem that’s furrifically Fido-friendly to boot! Your pooch is welcome to walk the strand as long as they’re leashed, and they’re free to splash about in the shallow water alongside the humans as long as they’re under voice control. The beach also features fabulous views of a California redwood forest just across the water.
Forestville River Access is level, paved, and short -- it’s hard to get more accessible than that! It almost goes without saying that fitter furry friends and laid-back lapdogs alike should have no trouble on the trail. In terms of facilities, pit restrooms are available during the summer season. Be sure to bring waste bags and water for your four-pawed pal, and enjoy your walk to the beach!
