Description

The Genesee Valley Greenway State Park Trail is a nearly 90-mile rail-trail set in the heart of the Genesee River Valley, one of the most scenic areas of upstate New York. Made up of packed cinders, gravel, and mowed grass at various points, it is a diverse trail that lends itself to all kinds of hikes and walks. Its immense size and tranquil setting make it a favorite location of locals and travelers alike — especially those accompanied by a furry friend!

The trail runs along two landmarks: the Genesee Valley Canal and what used to be the Pennsylvania Railroad. There is a great deal of history to be found in the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park Trail; along the trail, you will notice some of the old railroad structures, and there are also a number of plaques on the trail which describe historic sites. Most of the trail meanders through a calm and rural setting, but there are some small villages near the trail, like Scottsville, which is connected to the trail by the Canal Street Boardwalk. The trail’s endpoints are a great place to start exploring it. Genesee Valley Park marks one of the points, and it is a popular location in its own right, featuring a playground, picnic area, golf courses, and more. The other endpoint of the trail is Tibbetts Hill Road, set in the wonderful town of Black Creek.

The trail does not have restrooms, but they can be found in the villages that neighbor the trail, such as Scottsville. Also, there are no doggie waste bags provided on the trail, so make sure you bring your own bags so that you can clean up after your dog. Also, note that dogs are required to be on-leash at all times.

Genesee Valley Greenway State Park Trail is a peaceful trail that is rich in history; you and your dog will be glad you decided to visit!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
