The beach, your fur-ever pup and a hike! What could be better than that? Check out all these features at the Goleta Beach County Park in Goleta, California, and take a hike on it's pup-friendly trail. Nearby University of California at Santa Barbara students use this trail to travel from class to the beach, but visitors and pups are welcome!
Pick up the trailhead at the Goleta Beach Park entrance. Parking is offered there or on Sandspit Road leading to the entrance and trailhead. Fido will be pleased to meander on this 0.9-mile trail which also welcomes joggers, in-line skaters and bicyclists!Â
You will have stunning views throughout your hike as this trail runs along the coast and offers beautiful sights and sounds of the ocean. Take a leisurely hike here with this ‘easy’ rating and let your pup enjoy the views. Elderly pups, as well as any pup-ability, will love this paved path.Â
The trail runs near a long pier that jutts out into the water where fishing is top-notch. You and pup will also enjoy passing a grassy picnic area, and will soon find yourselves at the bottom of tall cliffs which reach skyward. Because this trail follows the water’s edge, the end portion of the trail cannot be used during high tide. But low tide will offer you an extended hike to Campus Beach, just a bit farther down the path.
Restrooms, drinking fountains, playgrounds and BBQ pits are all additional features of the park itself you can take advantage of before or after your hike. Be sure to pack water for your hike, especially in the summer months when the trail can become quite hot. Check your pup’s paws often during these hot days to make sure the pavement does not overheat them. Please clean up after your pawtastic friend to keep this a dog-welcoming hike, and always keep pups on leash.
Goleta Beach County Park is a top-pick for a lovely hike in California!
Permit parking near the trail is only offered to students.
