Is your doggo ready for an adventure in the great outdoors? Then load ‘em up and head on over to Gustin Ranch. Here your pooch will find a beautiful slice of nature that is ready to be explored. They will be in heaven as they traipse through the grass covered hills and dense forest.
Gustin Ranch occupies 80 acres of furrific land. It’s connected
to Sky Ranch and Dutra Ranch. All three pawperties are situated on the Franklin
Ridge, and together they spread across 480 acres. As your pooch trots along, they will not only
enjoy the ranch’s woofderful scenery, but they can also soak in views of
Carquinez Strait and Mt. Diablo. The woods are a combination of blue oak, coast
live oak, valley oak and California black oak. Rolling hills are blanketed with
native grasses as well as colorful wildflowers.
The one mile Contra Costa County Feeder Trail is the only trail that is actually in Gustin
Ranch. It wanders through thick laurel before
crossing Franklin Creek and ending at the
Sky Ranch Kiosk. Since the trail leads you to the top of the ridge, expect a bit of an incline, but it’s nothing your adventurous pup can’t handle. Since it’s
not a very long hike, your pup will pawbably need more exercise, so it’s a good
thing the trail continues into Sky Ranch. You and your four legged hiker can
follow the Tina Blatt Trail or the Dutra Loop Trail. Both are around three miles long.Â
Dogs need to be leashed in the parking area, but if your
pal is under voice control, they can run free on the trails. Please note there
is no water available, so be sure to bring plenty. Also, don’t forget to pack a
clean up bag or two. Above all else, have a furrific time hiking with your
pooch!
