This hiking system is pupular for a number of reasons. The first is that you can bring your dog! The next is the length. You can stroll up and down every path in the system and still wind up with less than a mile in total distance covered, thus making this hike accessible to just about everyone. The paths are wide and most of them are paved. This hike is easy on hikers, providing an interesting place to explore with your dog. Unlike longer or more challenging hikes, you don't have to worry about having the perfect shoes or plenty of supplies. There's even restrooms and a restaurant for snacks!
The features of the trail include the Brandywine River, as well as restored gunpowder mills. You can read the plaques and signs along the way to learn more about the features you pass. This tour is self-guided, so you can spend as long as you like with some parts, and then skip over anything that doesn't interest you. The one area of the trail that dogs are not allowed in is the beautifully restored DuPont homes. Bring a friend with you so you can take turns holding your dog outside while the other explores these gorgeous homes! Since the area was developed in 1802, it's understandable that dogs should keep their paws off the upholstery. You'll have to leave them outside the gift shop as well.Â
The Hagley Museum Trails are an educational and pleasant hike for people and pups of all experience levels!Â
