Description
The Highway 237 Bikeway Trail runs parallel to the highway. There are multiple ways to get on the trail; every time it crosses another path there's an opportunity to enter or exit the trail. There is no dedicated parking area, but the trailheads are on North 1st Street in San Jose, and San Tomas Aquino Creek Trail in Santa Clara. It's frequently busy. The trail is peppered with regular commuters, who use their bikes or feet to get around. The trail links Milpitas and Sunnyvale, two large employment centers for the area. This hike stands out as an example of alternate commuting!

Of course, Highway 237 Bikeway Trail is also busy because people use it to access any of the several other trails that it crosses! If you're looking for easy access to San Francisco Bay Trail, Guadalupe River Trail, or Coyote Creek Trail, familiarize yourself with Highway 237 Bikeway Trail. You'll save yourself a lot of time!

This hike is a relatively easy walk. It is point to point, so you'll have to make arrangements for how you're going to get back to the trailhead you started at. It's mostly very flat, and is paved for most of its length. Keep your dog's leash short, so cyclists can easily avoid the pair of you. This urban hike is not the most naturally stunning hike the area has to offer, but it is a valuable insight into the community. It's an urban hike that people actually use, and is a major part of the landscape.

As an urban hike that does stick close to a major highway, you have the standard concerns. You'll always be able to hear the cars whizzing past. Dogs who dislike cars (or can't get rid of their urge to chase them!) may not enjoy this hike as much as one that's more remote.

Highway 237 Bikeway Trail is a pawsome solution to commuter congestion, and a fun trail to explore with your dog!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.

Cautions & Considerations
The Highway 237 Bike Trail crosses city streets at several points. Use caution when walking near motor vehicles. Obeying crossing signals, looking both ways, and listening for cars all help keep you and your dog safe when walking on city streets.
