Indian Falls

Just south of Crescent Mills in the Plumas National Forest, you can find a treat for you and your pup. This forest is full of undisturbed beauty where you can get away from it all, and features enchanted forests, rushing streams, and open meadows. Along Highway 89 sits the hidden gem Indian Falls, an oasis in the High Sierra. The Indian Falls Trail will take you there! This short, but steep trail will take your breath away, from the workout and the views.

The Indian Falls trailhead can be found along Highway 89, about a mile north of the turnoff for the town of Indian Falls. Here you will find plenty of free parking. The trail will then take you through forests and wildflowers, down a steep decline. There are even signs along the trail to identify the native trees and plants, so you can take in some knowledge while your pup takes in the scents. There is a railing at the last descent of the trail to help prevent falls.

Once you’ve reached the bottom and worked up a sweat, you can enjoy the refreshing 15 foot waterfall along Indian Creek. There is even a small beach and swimming hole. Your pupper is welcome to join in on the fun! After taking a splash in the cool water, you both can warm up on the hot stones. Because this area is so beautiful and easily accessible, it has become a pawpular swimming hole for many locals.

There are no facilities here, so make sure to bring your own supplies and pack out what you packed in. Don’t forget the doggy waste bags, and drinking water for you and your pooch! You may even want to pack a picnic lunch and spend the day. This gorgeous summertime hangout is sure to get your pup’s tail wagging!
