Description

The Indian Pools Trail is basically an outdoor playground for both pups and their parents. Treat your four legged buddy to an afternoon in this beautiful slice of nature and you will probably receive a wet sloppy kiss of appreciation!

Before you can have some fun in the sun, you’ve got to find the actual trail. It can be accessed from the back parking lot of the China Peak Mountain Resort. There is no official sign, but a post and two trash cans mark the start of the trail. Once you are in the right place, follow the trail as it runs alongside Big Creek and through a thick pine forest. It also climbs up and over large boulders. Due to the trail crossing over the rocks, it can be tricky to navigate in places. Just watch for the cairns, or small stacks of rocks, that guide the way. Except for the boulders, the terrain is fairly flat, which your dog’s knees will appreciate.

Less than a mile from the trailhead, you will come to a string of pools that are connected by Big Creek. Now the real fun begins! Your furry friend will have an absolute blast hopping from pool to pool. They are deep enough for swimming, even for people. Throw a stick for your pal or just let them explore and splash around on their own. A couple small sandy beaches will keep two legged children busy, or you can all go for a family swim! When you are finished in the water, lay out on one of the boulders to relax and dry off. If you want to keep hiking, a trail continues past this first set of pools.

This is a pawfect spot for a picnic, so pack a lunch and plenty of water. Don’t forget to clean up after your pup. Make no mistake; your dog will absolutely love this trail!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
