The state of South Carolina is known for its beaches and mountains, but also offers some pawtastic hiking trails as well. Check out the Kings Highway Community Park in the city of Stateburg for some outdoor adventure with your fur-ever friend.
There are three trails of varying lengths and features depending on your taste for the day. All the trailheads can be accessed at the main entrance to the park. You have a choice of a nature educational trail, a walking and jogging trail, and a shared equestrian and OHV trail.
The 2.5-mile nature trail is a loop which takes you through forests filled with ferns, trees and brush for the first mile, and then picks up the shoreline of Robert’s Branch stream where the trail will narrow considerably. The footing for this trail is natural surface of grass or dirt.
The walking/jogging trail is paved and used by in-line skaters, so be sure to tell Fido to share the road! It meanders in and around the park and offers a respite from the day to just enjoy the outdoors. You will get to view the entire park from this trail.
A treat in the winter is the use of these trails by dog sleds. They use the equestrian and OHV trail and are fun to watch. These dogs are serious about their sport and might inspire your pup to get a bit more active! Horses and off-road vehicles are best used on this trail, and it is not advised to hike here because of the motorized vehicles.
The park offers restrooms and drinking fountains, and plenty of benches for resting and relaxing. Your pup is required to on leash throughout your visit. Check out the Kings Highway Community Park Trails today and enjoy its variety of hiking, pup-friendly adventures today!
