Kratka Ridge is a puptacular hike in the gorgeous Angeles National Forest. Nestled in the San Gabriel Mountains, this trail shoots up to a ridge and provides amazing views of mountain peaks and forests. Watch your doggo’s tail wag as they make their way up this pawsome trail.
With an elevation gain of 700 feet in under a mile, you know this trail will give your pal a leg workout. Begin your hike at Vista Picnic Area. Follow the trail as it winds up the side of the mountain through pines trees and past large boulders. There a couple benches strategically placed along the way, so if you need to catch your breath, you can stop and also take in the views of the area. As you get closer to the ridge, the trail passes by an abandoned ski lift and lift house. Several years ago, Snowcrest Ski Resort shut down due to a fire. These dilapidated structures are what remain.
Your furry friend will feel like champion when they get to the top of Kratka Ridge! Give them a generous drink of water then find a log and sit down for a break. Soak in furrific views of Twin Peaks and Waterman Mountain. Your pup will love looking out over the pawsome scenery and feeling the cool breeze run through their fur. Once your muscles are rested, head back down the mountain.
Parking is available at Vista Picnic Area. Here you’ll find primitive restrooms, but no water source. Be sure to bring plenty of H2O with you. If you do need to refill your water bottles, drinking water is available at the nearby Buckhorn Campground. There are a few picnic tables by the trailhead, so pack a sandwich and enjoy a leisurely lunch with your four legged hiking buddy.  No bones about it, your pooch will love Kratka Ridge!
