Laguna Mountain Recreational Area – Sunset Trail

Are you and your pup looking for something new and exciting in the southern California region? Your search is over at the Laguna Mountain Recreation Area’s Sunset Trail! 

This pup-friendly trail is the perfect length, with a distance of just 3.2 miles. This loop is rated as easy, so all pup-abilities can join in on the fun! It is a short drive from the large city of San Diego, and it will put you in the middle of a welcoming dense, green forest. Pick up the trailhead at mile marker 19.1 and just pull to either side of the road to park.  There is a meadow information hut where you will find a map and additional information.

Grab your pup and head out to discover this area’s spectacular views of green sprawling meadows, small ponds, mountain lakes, and grazing wildlife and cattle. This diverse landscape offers plenty to please the eyes of both you and your pawtastic pup! There is never a dull moment on this hike! You will enjoy this being a ‘hikers only’ trail - not shared with bicyclers or equestrians, so it gives you plenty of quiet time to leisurely meander along. The trail footing is either packed dirt or pine needles which are both comfortable for Fido’s paws.

Be sure to offer your pup plenty of breaks along the way. Just relax and enjoy the sounds of nature here. Plenty of water should be packed, along with gear for inclement weather. You may leave your pup on or off leash here as long as they remain easily recalled. Clean up after your pup on the trail to keep this hike pup-tastic! There are no restroom facilities at the trailhead, so be sure to take this into consideration.
