Lake Amador

Just an hour's drive from Stockton and Sacramento, the family owned and operated Lake Amador is best known for being a fishing and camping destination. Explore the area around the 400-acre lake with your pup by going for a leisurely walk on the trail across the dam from the resort clubhouse. The out-and-back path, which stretches about a mile, starts by the spillway and will bring you and your pooch to the back side of Mountain Spring. It's quite a pawpular spot for dog walking, so Fido just might make some new friends while you're out strolling. There's also a nature trail in the wooded area just south of the RV park where your pup can stretch their legs and check out new sights and smells. Visit in the fall or spring for the best scenery! Remember to keep your furry pal leashed and bring your own doggie waste bags.

Be sure to carry cash, too, as there is a daily parking fee of $7 per vehicle. Aside from hiking, you and your best friend can go boating and swimming in the lake, play disc golf on the two 18-hole courses, and share a picnic by the water. If you'd like to extend your stay by a day or two, Lake Amador features a 113-site campground surrounded by oaks and a 73-site RV park on a private peninsula. The latter offers full hookup, while the former is equipped with hot showers, flush toilets, and other modern amenities. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome as well.
