The Tashka Trail is great for anyone looking to enjoy the great outdoors. The trailhead begins where the smaller Lakeside Trail ends, just west of the South Trailhead and just beyond the dam spillway. The main attraction of the state park is the 250-acre Lake Lurleen, which you'll get to see often on your rigorous 9-mile trek. The Tashka Trail winds up and down, with several vista points overlooking Lake Lurleen. Most hikers will find this leg of the trip challenging, so take several rest stops along the path to rehydrate as you marvel at the scenery. Mid-way into the trail, you'll see signs marked for the optional 3-mile Five Oaks Loop Trail. If you choose not to take the additional trail loop, the next chance to take a detour is at the Tornado Loop Trail, ruffly 5.2 miles further along the Tashka Trail.
Dog owners are asked to always keep pets on-leash. All trash taken in must be taken out, so keep that in mind before you begin your 9-mile journey. If you wish to extend your hike, optional trails fork off the Tashka Trail, such as the Tornado Loop, Storm Loop, and Lightning Loop Trails. There's truly no shortage of pawsome activities and dazzling sights to see for you to enjoy both along the Tashka Trail and within the Lake Lurleen State Park! Come out and enjoy a day or weekend trip with your explorer pup!
