Amenities, such as bathrooms, picnic areas, concession stands, and more, are located within the Lake Poway Recreational Area. Port-a-John's are located along the trail for your convenience. The trail mainly wraps around the edge of the Lake Poway, offering beautiful, quiet views. Wildflowers, such as poppies, are often spotted along the hike. As for the terrain itself, it's mostly dirt/loose terrain, which can become muddy after a good rain. Otherwise, the area is mostly dry and hot, giving way to snakes and other wildlife that could pose a threat to you and your pup. Make sure to stick to the trail and keep your pup leashed.
If you enjoy relaxing strolls with minimal challenges, then the Lake Poway Loop Trail is right for you and your pup. There are various ups and downs, so the trail always keeps you on your toes, err paws. Midway along the trail, you will find several benches, where you can enjoy a snack while you take in the views of the tranquil lake and the Ramona Dam. Next, you should see signs leading to the Mount Woodson Trail and the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. Continue following the Lake Loop Trail to complete the 2+ mile loop, or branch off to complete part of the other trails (just keep in mind this will lengthen overall mileage).
Enjoy your time exploring the beautiful Lake Poway Loop Trail with your pup! Remember to be courteous to other hikers and their canines by removing trash from the trail and greeting passers-by!
