Description

Spectacularly scenic and conveniently located close to Cupertino in La Honda, CA, Long Ridge Open Space would be a real mutts-visit were it not for the fact that hound dog hikers are only allowed on a couple of routes in the park’s trail system. Never mind, though -- the Fido-friendly trails run through some of the prettiest parts of the preserve, so Long Ridge Open Space is still well worth checking out if you happen to find yourself in the area! You’ll find parking on Skyline Blvd near the Grizzly Flats Trailhead, but it’s best to get there early on the weekends, as spaces fill up fast! Long Ridge isn’t quite as well known as other preserves along Skyline Blvd -- you and your pooch certainly won’t have the place to yourselves, but those seeking solitude should probably search elsewhere.

The most beautiful and easiest Fido-friendly walk in Long Ridge Open Space is the furrific Peter’s Creek Trail, a two-mile trek that features only a gradual incline. The path meanders through lush valley forest, hugging the creek and passing the gorgeous Jijoki Pond. You’re in for a treat once you reach the end -- the little-known Peter’s Creek Falls might not be the biggest, but it’s still a beautiful sight, not to mention a pawfect spot for a picnic! Fitter furry friends looking for a challenge might want to check out the Long Ridge Open Space stretch of the Bay Area Ridge Trail which starts just after Peter’s Creek and features some steep elevation gains. The one-and-a-half-mile Chestnut Trail also welcomes wagging tails.

Of course, the trails within Long Ridge Open Space vary in terms of accessibility, but four-pawed fitness freaks and laid-back lapdogs alike should have no trouble on the Peter’s Creek Hike. The ground can be quite uneven, though, so watch your step! Keep an eye on the signs to find out where your fur-ball isn’t welcome -- it might be a good idea to look up a map before you go. In terms of facilities, there’s no restroom or drinking fountain, so bring plenty of water and be sure to go before you go. Remember to bring waste bags for your buddy, and have a pawesome time at the preserve!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
