Looking for a getaway from the city for you and your pawtastic pup? The Marion Bear Memorial Park is a great choice. Located 11 miles from downtown San Diego, California, this park in San Clemente Canyon spans a whopping 467 acres, and offers trails that are a respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Perfectly pup-friendly, you and Fido will love the hike located in the San Clemente Canyon. The main trail begins at the trailhead in the Marian Bear Memorial Park at the end of Limerick Avenue on the eastern side. On the western end, you can find another trailhead at the end of Bothe Avenue, with more in between. There are also parking areas along the trail you can find as well.Â
The path is mostly dirt with a few areas of loose stone, but is easily traversed by most fitness-level hikers and pups, and is the perfect place to enjoy some together time with your fur-ever friend. You will not realize you are so close to the city as the path is generously lined with trees and vegetation throughout, offering plenty of shade and places to relax.
Stop and appreciate the views as you wind through the canyon. What a perfect place to snap some photos to remember you day with Fido. This shared trail is not often crowded, and while horses are not allowed on this trail, bicyclists are. The stream at the beginning of your journey is a nice place to let your pup get their paws wet. Keep an eye out for local wildlife along the way.
If you are wanting to extend your hike, there are intertwining trails which will lead you to different âfingersâ of the canyon. Try them all, but be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks for the journey. You will find restrooms and drinking fountains in the park before your hike. Keep your adventure pup leashed for the entirety of the the journey.
Head to Marian Bear Memorial Park for a puptastic day on the trail with your dog!
There have been sightings of snakes in the area and on the path. Other paths that connect can be challenging.
