Is your pup an athlete and looking for a challenge? The Mount Woodsen Trail, in the city of Poway, California, is just the spot to give you and Fido the workout of a lifetime!Â
Pick up this trail where Lake Poway Road dead ends. This trail winds its way up from the lake and seems to never end for 8 miles! Highly prized as a conditioning trail for hikers and runners, Mount Woodsen Trail is frequented by sports competitors who need to keep in tip-top shape. This is not a trail for the faint of heart or those new to hiking as it is a steep hike to the top.
A reward when you reach the summit is a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean! Be sure to pull out your camera here - a selfie with your pawtastic pup is a must. Give a paw-five for a job well-done and sit and enjoy the views! Another prize for reaching the top is having your photo taken at famous Potato Chip Rock which is a popular tourist destination!Â
Please consider your pup’s abilities and fitness level before trying to hike this trail. Besides its difficult rating, there is no shade the entire way. Give your pup plenty of rest breaks and pack lots of water and snacks to share along the way. Because this is a sightseer’s dream trail, be aware that it can become very crowded. Your pup must remain on leash throughout the entire journey. Wait times should be expected at the rock.
No restrooms or drinking fountains are located along the trail, so plan accordingly. You should always carry water and mutt mitts to keep this trail pup-friendly.Â
Mount Woodsen Trail is a superb athletic puptastic challenge with rewards for those who succeed and reach the top!
A $10 parking fee is imposed for weekend visitors who are not Poway residents. Weekdays offer free parking.
