Description

Taking your fur buddy for a hike in the countryside is a pawsome thing to do. If you're in the Northfield region of Massachusetts, the Northfield Mountain Trail is a great trek without being too challenging. To get to the trailhead of this loop trail which is around four and a half miles long, head down Millers Falls Road from Northfield to the Northfield Farms area and take the turn-off for the West Access Road. Right after hitting the access road, you'll see another fork on the right. Take that, and it will lead you to the parking lot and restrooms which are located at the trailhead.

Knowing they're heading out on a hike, your pup will be bounding with happiness when they jump from the car. They do need to be on their leash during the trek, but it won't spoil their fun. You'll be straight on the trail when you leave the parking lot. It's a wide track and not overly populated, so you'll be able to give your pup some slack on the leash and let them run ahead.

The Northfield Mountain trail winds its way through woodlands and gives you pup-tastic views over the Rocky Mountain Park. The trees on this trail are not dense and so don't give much shade, but they're still pleasant to walk through. Take plenty of water for you and pup, plus some protein snacks for both of you to keep your energy levels at a maximum. Taking clean up bags is recommended too as there are no dispensers on the trail.

The highlight of this trail, apart from the scenic mountain views, is the three hundred acre reservoir. It may be man-made, but it's still very picturesque and makes a good picnicking spot. There's no swimming though either for humans or their pets, but its still a woofderful place to chill out for a while before continuing with your hike. Have a furrific time trekking with your pup!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
