The walking path in Park No. 500 is a short and easy dog furiendly walk of about 1.5 miles. Park No. 500 is in the middle of the community of West Garfield on South Springfield in Chicago, Illinois. You and your poochie will start at the parking lot and head into the wooded area where the gravel path takes you. The mature oaks and pines will help keep you and your canine companion protected from the sun throughout most of your walk.
The park itself boasts a playground, basketball court, benches, and several trash cans where you can dispose your clean up bags. Your dog must be on a leash whether you are in the park or on the trail. However, you and Fido will have plenty to see on the trail such as gorgeous green grasslands, prairies full of vibrant-colored wildflowers, and even some wildlife like squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, deer, and raccoons.
There are no water fountains, so it is best if you bring along some extra H20 for you and your canine kid, so you don’t get dehydrated on your walk. There are also no restrooms at Park No. 500, so plan accordingly. You can have a seat on one of the benches or even on one of the many large rocks on the path where you can let Fido sniff around while you take a break and have a snack.
You will most likely see a wide variety of birds and insects, and you may even see some eagles or hawks, depending on what time of the year you go. The Park No. 500 Walking Path is a furific place to spend the day with your pooch and enjoy nature and the sunshine in Chicago. You will surely want to come back again.
