Description

If you’re searching for a great hike to do with your furry best friend, Pine Ridge Nature Trail is perfect for you! This trail takes you through Seney National Wildlife Refuge, which is home to lovely pine islands, unique marshes, and numerous species of songbirds. The unpaved trail is 1.4 miles in total and mostly flat, making it easy for your dog to walk on. Dogs are welcome to join you on this puptastic trail on-leash.

The trail begins at the Seney National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. Here, parking and restrooms are available. When you head out onto the trail, the first thing you’ll see is a beautiful wetland habitat. This wetland is filled with birds, beavers, otters, and other native wildlife.

About halfway through the trail, you’ll reach a picturesque forest filled with native pine trees that provide plenty of shade while you’re walking. After that, you’ll get to a boardwalk that takes you over open water and through the wetlands. Then, you’ll walk through another tranquil pine forest. On the last portion of the trail, you’ll trek along a scenic marsh that’s teeming with wildlife. After that, you’ll end up back where you started at the Visitor Center.

If you’d like to extend your hike, the Pine Ridge Nature Trail intersects with the 0.5-mile Wigwam Connector Trail. The Wigwam Connector Trail will take you to the Wigwam Access Point, which is located next to a peaceful pond. You can relax here for a bit before you head back onto the Pine Ridge Nature Trail.

The Pine Ridge Nature Trail is a fun, easy walk that’s full of native wildlife and passes tons of scenic areas. Bring doggy bags with you so you can clean up after your dog while you’re hiking, and have a pawsitively amazing time hiking on this fun-filled trail!
