Description

Are you and your pup itching for a day out in nature? Why not take a pup-tastic hike at the Pinecrest Lake National Recreational Trail in Pinecrest, California? You and your fur-ever friend can enjoy spending the day in the great outdoors here.

You can pick up the trailhead at the day-use area in the Stanislaus National Forest. The trail meanders around the entire lake and heads either clockwise or counterclockwise. One trailhead starts at the Pinecrest Lake Marina, and the other you will hop on at the day-use area parking lot.  Both are located next to each other on the same road, and either way, you will love the view during your hike.

This loop trail meanders for 3.9 miles and follows the outline of the lakeshore. You will pass over the Stanislaus River and the lake’s dam. The trail’s natural footing path is perfect for all pup-abilities and easy on the paws! The lake’s shoreline, native trees and shrubs and local wildlife all enhance the beauty of your surroundings.

You will find water and year-round restrooms at the day-use area of the national forest where you are parked. Be sure to fill your water bottles here and then pack plenty of snacks for the day to share with your pawtastic pup! Fido must be on leash here as there is a leash law in place countywide.

It is advised to use the trail between the months of March and November, as the winter months can be harsh on the use of the trail, so hiking with pups is not recommended though still allowed.  Take careful consideration to the rules that limit lake access for pups during the tourist season of May 15th – September 15th.

Fido will give a big ruff in approval of the Pinecrest Lake Trail in sunny California!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
