Rancheria Falls National Recreation Trail

It is time to pack up your fur-ever friend and head to Big Creek, California, for some amazing hiking! Check out the pup-friendly Rancheria Falls Trail and get ready for a great adventure with your pawtastic pup in the great outdoors!

Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the Sierra National Forest, your hike will begin at the trailhead located at the parking lot on Route 8S31. This out-and-back trail runs for 4.1 miles and offers a spectacular view of the Rancheria waterfall. 

You and your pup will have no trouble hiking this trail as it is rated easy and is mostly level. There are a couple of very short uphill climbs, but are easily managed by taking your time. Along the way, you will find granite rock outcroppings, forested areas, open spaces and overall beautiful scenery throughout the entire journey. The trail is made up of packed natural footing, and wildflowers are abundant here. 

Rancheria Falls is near the end of the hike, so you must complete the 4.1 mile one-way route to see it. The waterfall rises to a height of 150 feet with cascading waters making their way down the rock faces and offering spectacular photo opportunities. The trail end is at the base of the falls, but there are ways to climb up to the top if you are adventurous. It is best to only try this if you are an experienced hiker. 

It is advised to bring plenty of water and gear for changing weather patterns you may encounter in this area. Restrooms are located at the trailhead parking lot. Be sure to keep your pup on leash throughout this hike, and clean up after them to keep this trail pup friendly.
