Once in parked position, step out and begin your pawriffic hike down several flights of steps. From there, continue on your way along the trail, winding down the bluffs as you go. The views overlooking Ozark Lake are just furtastic! Make sure to plan a few breaks along your hike to stop and enjoy the scenery and the expansive views of the Arkansas River disappearing into the distance. The trail will eventually level out along the forest floor, giving you and your pup a chance to rest your paws from the descent. At the lookout, enjoy learning about the history of the area via the on-site displays.
Enjoy a picnic or a snack at this point, rehydrate, and take some pictures of the lock and dam! Much of the terrain of this self-guided trail has been kept raw and wild, so make sure to take out what you bring in, and scoop up and throw away any of Fido's stinky presents. Finish off the hike by ascending back up a flight of stairs to the trailhead. The ascent can get fairly steep at this point, so make sure to watch your step! The rest of the trail back to the parking lot is flat; take advantage of it to catch your breath and complete this wooftacular loop trail!
The River Bluff Nature Trail is a short and sweet hike to complete with your family and canine friends year-round! Come and enjoy this quaint nature trail set inside the Reed Mountain Park. You and Fido will have a barking good time together!
