Scott Canyon Trail to Jedi Trail Loop

Going for a hike with the pooch is a great way to spend the day in Loma Linda, California. The Scott Canyon Trail to Jedi Trail loop is a little over six miles that is dog furiendly, and features a lot of critters and wildflowers. Parking is available at Hulda Crooks Park where the Scott Canyon Trail begins right off of Canyon Road, just outside of the cultivated areas of the park. 

This moderate trail gains about 1,026 feet of elevation with switchbacks and lots of hills, valleys, canyons and dips. The trail is all dirt and grass with no trees for cover, so bring your sunscreen and a hat. There are also plenty of green meadows and prairies full of vibrantly colored wildflowers such as desert poppies, lupines, canterbury bells, thistles, clover, lotus, fiddlenecks, gumweed, dandelions, daisies, bluebonnets, and flax. 

Most of the way, you'll be traveling along the Scott Canyon Trail, but for the last 0.5 miles, you'll be walking the Jedi Trail! This small trail is found stuck between other trails and is super pupular with bike riders for its rollercoaster type hills. Beware of the bikers, who can come in fast! The Jedi Trail will go from Scott Canyon Trail to the West Ridge Trail, then it loops back toward Scott Canyon and joins it again. You and your pup will head back the same way on the Scott Canyon Trail to get back to Hulda Crooks Park. Or if this trek just isn't enough, there are lots of trails that cross these two, meaning you can customize your hike in many different ways. Be sure to have a GPS or map with you, as it can get confusing out there!

You and Fido will likely see some wildlife along the way, and since this is bear country, you need to be careful, especially if you have food. Be sure to bring all the essentials for a woofderful day, including water to share, and clean-up bags, and be sure to keep the trails as clean as you found them.

Once back at the Hulda Crooks Park, check out all the amenities to be had here, such as playgrounds, restrooms, drinking water, and of course, the dog park! On the corner of Beaumont Avenue and Mountain View Avenue, right off the last mile of the trail, there’s a large dog and small dog area, water, and agility equipment. You can relax on a bench while your canine kid runs out that last bit of energy before the end of your hike.
