Shut-In Trail

Shut-In Trail is located near Asheville, North Carolina, and if you're an experienced hiker looking for somewhere new to explore, you've found the perfect spot! As the trail is in the mountains, and the woods are dense, it can get quite cold during the winter, so make sure you're dressed appropriately. The trail is a little over 16 miles long. Don't be fooled, though, into thinking inexperienced hikers can just walk part of the trail. 

Shut-In Trail hosts an annual race that's known to be considered "brutal" by even the most advanced runners and hikers. The trail is narrow, and it's also very hilly, so those who don't hike that often can quickly tire themselves out. That being said, if you're confident in your hiking abilities, this trail is worth the effort! The views from the trail are breathtaking, overlooking the mountains surrounding Asheville. During autumn, when the leaves are turning, make sure you have your phone or a camera on hand to take some pictures. You'll regret it if you don't!

If your dog doesn't mind a tough walk, Shut-In Trail is also the pawfect place to enjoy an adventure together. The trail is dog-friendly, as long as Fifi stays on her leash. Shut-In runs through the forest, so you're likely to run into wildlife, and if your dog is like most, it'll be easy for them to get distracted. Please remember to clean up after your pup, but be aware it'll be a while before you run across any garbage cans to dispose of the waste.
