If your furry friend has been sitting around the house all day, then it’s time for them to get outside and walk! Grab the leash and make your way over to the Southern Walnut Creek Trail so your pupster can stretch their four legs and get their blood pumping.
The trail begins in Govalle Park, where you will find
plenty of parking. If you have some extra time, wander around this lovely green
space before starting your trek along the actual trail. There are wide open
lawns that your pooch can sniff. When you are ready to begin your walk, head northeast
on the paved pathway. While in the park, the trail runs alongside Boggy Creek. Once it exits the park, the trail twists and
turns through forests and eventually meets up with Walnut Creek. Your pupster
will be absolutely delighted to get their exercise is such a beautiful setting.
Since the park crosses the creek and road a few times,
you pass over a few bridges. There’s not much of an elevation change, but expect some soft rolling hills. If your pal gets tired, paws for a
break and sit on one of the benches. They won’t mind a bit of people watching
while they catch their breath. Eventually the trail terminates around Johnny
Morris Road and Daffen Lane. A fun fact for your pup-this area was once a stop
on the Texas and New Orleans Railroad in the 1930s and 1940s.
Southern Walnut Creek Trail is multi-use. The trail
itself is 10 feet wide and made of concrete, so there is enough room for
joggers, cyclists, and other dog walkers. Help your pooch yield to oncoming
traffic. Don’t forget to always have a clean up bag in your pocket so you can
pick up after your pup, and be sure to have water on hand. Above all else,
have a woofderful time strolling along this pawsome trail with your furry BFF!
