Lace up your shoes and spend the morning and afternoon exploring this urban path which loops around the famous Lady Bird Lake Reservoir on the Colorado River. The trail is majorly made up of a mixture of dirt and crushed gravel, however, there is a freshly paved section of the trail known as the boardwalk. The boardwalk stretches ruffly 1.25 miles and is undoubtedly the most pawpular segment of the trail, as it offers magnificent river views and features a number of attractions nearby. Of pawticular interest for pooches are two off-leash dog areas where Fido can run and play with other canines. One is housed within Zilker Park, one of the urban trail's largest and most frequented recreation areas. The other, Auditorium Shores, is a smaller park offering doggoes to run free and sits right on the river's edge. Both lie west of the heavily trafficked boardwalk.
Other than designated doggie areas, what else is there along this wooftastic Hike and Bike Trail? Besides a mixture of diverse peoples and pleasant river views, there is also lush green groves and ecological restoration spots, plus boat/kayak rentals, pedestrian bridges, water fountains, and so much more. The Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail is simply known for being Austin's crowning jewel. You and your woofer must come to discover this woofderful, pup-loving, trail! Don't forget your manners and make sure to pick up after your canine to keep the trail squeaky clean!
