If your pooch is itching at the collar to go for a hike, then it’s time for a trip to St. Edward’s Park. This woofderful green space is home to two furrific trails. Here your leashed pooch can get some much needed exercise while enjoying the lovely scenery. Sounds like a pawsome plan!
When you come to this park, you have two trails to choose
from. If your pup has the energy and you have the time, you could even hike
both! For a more family friendly
experience, opt for the Creek Trail. It begins at the park’s trailhead and
heads west. When you reach the junction, take a right and follow the trail
through open prairies. When you see a sign that says “4-Way,” take another
right. From here, the trail parallels Bull Creek. If your pooch gets too hot,
they can go for a swim in the refreshing water. Continue your hike past sheer
rock walls, waterfalls, and various trees and shrubs. You know you’ve hit the
end of the trail when you see the sign that says “Turnaround.”
Hill Trail is the other option. It begins at the same
trailhead and immediately crosses Bull Creek. Don’t worry, there are rocks to
help you across. From here, the trail climbs up limestone bluffs until you and
your pooch have furrific views of Bull Creek and the rest of the park. As you
continue west, there is more incline and more pawsome overlooks. Eventually,
you come to a junction. If you want to add some mileage to your hike, head
right for an additional loop. If not, take a left and follow the trail back to
the trailhead. Even though there is a creek nearby, bring plenty of drinking
water for both you and your furry pal, as well as clean-up bags.
Make no mistake, your pupster will love hiking the St.
Edward’s Park Trails!
