Sunrise Carriage Trail is located just a bone's throw away from downtown Charleston, West Virginia, so it's a great pawpportunity to have a last-minute adventure with your dog! The trail, which is less than a mile long, has actually been around for over 100 years. It was originally used to move construction materials, but now, it's used for hiking.Â
There's no entrance fee to use Sunrise Carriage. The trail also has ample free parking on both ends, but there's one thing it doesn't have: bathrooms! Make sure you take care of that before you venture out.Â
A large portion of the trail is covered by trees, making it quite shady. That's great during the summer, but during the winter, you might want to bring along a coat. Most of Sunrise Carriage Trail is paved, which makes it easy for anyone to hike. However, there are some parts of the trail that might encourage you to venture off the pathway just a bit. We won't spoil anything for you, but there's a statue in the park that many locals can't resist snapping a picture of; make sure you bring along your phone or a camera!
As long as your canine companion is on their leash, they're welcome to join you on your hike! You'll also want to bring along some waste bags for quick and easy clean-up of any messes your pup makes. As tempting as it might be, please don't leave anything behind. When you leave, the park should look just as it did before you arrived!Â
