Looking for a new place to walk your pooch? Grab the leash, lace up your shoes, and head over to the Talleyran Park Trail. This pawsome trail may be on the shorter side, but your pupster will love it just the same!
Access to the trail is located inside Northwest Balcones
Park, which is also known as Talleyran Park. Before you
begin your walk, take a spin around the park to get your pup’s legs warmed up. When
your pal is ready to begin the hike, make your way over to the back of the baseball
field where you’ll find the trailhead. Follow the trail as it cuts through a
grove of juniper trees and descends through a boulder field to a creek floodplain. The
terrain is a bit rocky, but it’s nothing your pup can’t handle.
Once you reach the bottom of the hill, the trail runs south alongside the stream. Depending on the time of year, the creek may be dry. This
section of the trail isn’t as rocky, so it makes for an easy stroll through the
trees. Continue south until you reach the turnaround point at Old Spicewood
Springs Road. When you turn around, there’s a bit of backtracking until you see
a stone staircase that takes you to the bank of creek. If there is water
running, the stone path helps keep your feet dry. From here, you and your pooch
head north, paralleling the creek. Finally, cross the creek one more time so you are at the bottom of the boulder field. Then head up the hill to the baseball
field.
Don’t forget to carry plenty of drinking water. The trail is only a mile long, but it’s always good to be prepared. Also, have a clean-up bag on hand and ready to go. Above all else, have a woofderful time with your furry BFF!
