Description

Looking for a quiet spot where you can walk Fido, away from the hustle and bustle of big city life? Then look no further than the Tujunga Wash Greenway, a tranquil and dog-friendly trail right in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. Situated on both banks of the Tujunga Wash, this 2.5-mile loop will take you and your pup along a beautiful riparian habitat and one of the longest murals in the world.

There are multiple places to access the Tujunga Wash Greenway, including the northwest corner of Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Oxnard Street. Located near Grant High School, this particular access point features a gate decorated with marsh plants and waterfowl. Enter through the gate and begin following the paved path northward. You and your pup will soon be greeted by a variety of native plants, including cactus, sycamore, sage, and pink oleander. Once you cross the wash at Victory Boulevard and start heading south on the opposite site, you will spot more local plants, such as the palo verde, lantana, oleander, and bottle brush.

You and Fido will also pass by LA's longest mural, the Great Wall of Los Angeles, along the way. Stretching over half a mile, the mural depicts the lengthy history of the Los Angeles area, including several neglected historical events. Completed between 1976 and 1983 by hundreds of artists, this public art project fills the east-facing wall of the wash and should not be missed. To return to the starting point, cross the wash again at Burbank Boulevard and head north once more. Walk past Los Angeles Valley College and Grant High, and you'll find yourselves back where you began.

Be sure to bring doggie waste bags and enough water for both of you for this urban hike! Always keep your furry pal on a leash as you enjoy the nature, art, and history on the Tujunga Wash Greenway!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
