Turkey Creek Trail

Is your pooch itching for an outdoor adventure? Head on over to Turkey Creek Trail for a furrific hike with your favorite four legged friend. As one of Austin’s only off leash trails, it’s a favorite destination of the local canines. Your pup will love it!

Turkey Creek Trail is located inside of Emma Long Metropolitan Park. The trailhead can be found on the south end of the park and on the west side of Turkey Creek. Once you arrive, unclip your doggo’s leash and let them run free! Like its name suggests, the trail follows Turkey Creek as it winds its way through the park. The terrain is what every dog dreams of- streams, woods, and dirt trails! What could be better?!  

Follow the trail as it makes its way north. Be prepared for several stream crossings. Your pup won’t mind a bit, but your shoes may get a little wet. However, there are plenty of stepping stones to help you across. Since the trail is a loop, you can go either way at the junction. If you want to follow the trail markers in order, stick to the left route. From here, the trail goes up the creek valley. Your doggo can hike on the trail or wade through the water, it’s their choice! 

Finally, the trail turns around and begins its way back south. On the return, you leave the stream for a little bit as the trail climbs up a bluff that overlooks the little valley. Before you know it, you will be back to the junction and can retrace your steps to the car. Since this place is so pupular, it’s super impawtant to pick up after your pooch. While clean-up bags can be found at the trailhead, grab some for the journey. Bring enough water to share with your pup too. Always have the leash ready in case you need it along the way, and to put on when returning to your car. Note that any areas outside of the trail itself are on leash only. 

Make no mistake, your pupster will go mutts over this trail!
