Fenway is an up and coming neighborhood in Boston that consists of several smaller communities. The northern part of Fenway is where you'll find Kenmore Square, a bustling intersection of hotels, shopping and dining, apartments, and university life. Kenmore Square marks the easternmost point of Boston University's Charles River Campus and the neighborhood consists of the eastern half of the university which is filled with local students.

Kenmore Square is a fun area to explore with your furry friend because of its variety of things to do. Check the weather before you head out though because Boston's climate changes drastically each day and the weather may not be conducive for a doggie walk. The winters bring freezing temperatures and windy snow storms while the summer brings high temperatures and humid, sweltering days. However, on the beautiful, sunny days, Boston, and especially Kenmore Square, will be one of the most enjoyable walks.

The Kenmore Square area of Fenway is fairly small and there aren't many hills you need to be concerned about. The busiest streets are Commonwealth Avenue and Beacon Street, particularly at their intersection in the middle of Kenmore Square. This region can become very busy during tourist season, on the weekends, during baseball season, or when BU is hosting a major event. Check the calendar or head out in the early morning for your best chance of less crowded streets and fewer cars on the road to keep an eye out for.

Kenmore Square offers a fair amount of green space throughout the neighborhood and you're likely to encounter some along the way. Many of the sidewalks, especially on the BU campus, feature trees and plants as well as patches of grass. This neighborhood is perfect for the pets who love people and exploring a unique part of the city.

The neighborhood's green spaces are fairly hidden and you won't encounter the greenways Kenmore Square has to offer unless you look for them. You'll find most of the grassy areas on the BU campus where its students enjoy relaxing and studying under shady trees. There is a small green space in front of the College of Communication that is a favorite for dogs looking for lots of other pets. A little further down Commonwealth Avenue is Marsh Plaza and the BU Beach, another sprawling grassy spot offering some shade under tall trees.

The BU Beach also gives you access to the Charles River Esplanade, a series of biking and walking paths through a riverside park. This is a favorite for Bostonians as the paths travel miles down the river and offer scenic views of the city. Your pooch will love sniffing around the foliage and visiting with other dogs along the way.
