Wag! Walkers know Wellesley Square (Wellesley Sq)

Wellesley Square is one of Wellesley's central shopping and dining districts in the heart of this small Boston town and steps away from Wellesley College's campus. As the halfway point for the Boston Marathon, the square sees many spectators for the event each April but its charming streets and storefronts attract visitors throughout the year. Several community projects have revitalized the area, making it more beautiful than ever.

Your pup will enjoy a leisurely walk down the streets of Wellesley Square as they are lined with many boutique shops and small restaurants, especially along Central Street. There are even a few pet-friendly places where pets can accompany you on patios! Wellesley Square is also the site of several community events throughout the year. One of the most notable is July Jubilation, a day-long event where the town shuts down Central Street for a festival featuring a dunk tank, circus performers, and, of course, sidewalk sales.

What is the terrain like in Wellesley Square (Wellesley Sq)?

Wellesley Square is a small part of the town, so don't expect a long, tiring walk. This area is good for older dogs who may walk slower and tire out quickly, but it's also great for spritely pups who love exploring new places. Some of the streets have small inclines, but they shouldn't be an issue. While most of the region consists of brick buildings along sidewalks and roadways, there are several squares with shady trees and benches, making it an idyllic spot to rest.

Although it's set in a small suburb away from the bustling city of Boston, the square can become crowded depending on the time of day. If your dog isn't a fan of lots of people around, head out for your walk early in the morning, especially before the stores open. You will have all the streets for yourself to enjoy a quiet and peaceful walk.

How many greenways are there in Wellesley Square (Wellesley Sq)?

Wellesley Square is dotted with many small grassy courtyards with benches underneath shady trees. These spots are perfect for a rest or for some afternoon people-watching. Some of these courtyards are set on a hill, offering great views of the streets below. There are also several parks and greenways nearby if you're willing to venture away from the square.

Just above Washington Street is Morton Park, home to Wellesley Town Hall as well as walking paths around pretty trees and creeks. It also offers access to Wellesley's walking trails that offer you the chance to walk through 43 miles of the town's wooded areas. The adjacent Simons Park, set behind the library, is another park offering a place to enjoy a natural setting away from the hustle and bustle of the square. If your pet loves people, head west on Central Street to Wellesley College where students lounging on the quad will happily give your pup attention.
