As a suburb of Washington, D.C., Downtown Silver Spring isn't quite a concrete jungle, but you certainly won't find much natural terrain on these city streets. Thankfully, there are a few trees throughout the neighborhood, but not enough to provide much shade on those hot summer days. Thankfully, Silver Spring does have plenty of well-maintained sidewalks so you and Fido won't have to share the roadways with the notorious D.C.-area traffic.
Additionally, this area is relatively flat, so you and Fido can enjoy relaxing and easy walks through Downtown Silver Spring.
The boundaries of Downtown Silver Spring are Spring Street and Cedar Street to the north, Grove Street and Fenton Street to the east, Sligo Avenue and Burlington Avenue to the south, and Eastern Avenue and 16th Street to the west. Eastern Avenue is also the Maryland-Washington, D.C. border. Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road are the two most heavily-trafficked roads in the neighborhood.Thankfully, there are a few larger parks in the surrounding neighborhoods. Immediately to the south of Downtown Silver Spring, you will find Jesup Blair Local Park. This public park has a playground, a few athletic fields and courts, a picnicking area, and a field for general recreation. Other nearby greenways include Belle Ziegler Park, Silver Spring Intermediate Neighborhood Park, King Street Community Garden, Bullis Park, Nolte Local Park, Woodside Park, Fairview Road Urban Park.
Additionally, immediately to the north of Downtown Silver Spring, you will find a local dog park! Within walking distance of this neighborhood, Ellsworth Urban Dog Park has two separate, fenced-off sections: one for larger breeds and one for smaller. This park is open from dawn until dusk.
