Barclay Downs is a prominent, upscale neighborhood that is largely residential in nature. Much of this community is composed of beautiful, standalone, single-family homes with expansive lawns. However, there are also quite a few apartment and townhome complexes throughout this suburban neighborhood.
Commercially, Barclay Downs has an upscale fashion mall, several local schools, local restaurants, and parks. Most of the commercial spaces are located on the southern border of the neighborhood.
Additionally, Barclay Downs is a rather hilly neighborhood. There are plenty of unexpected and steep hills throughout this community, so you and Spot are guaranteed to get a great workout in while exploring this Charlotte suburb.
The boundaries of Barclay Downs include Brandywine Road and Lorene Avenue to the north, Colony Road to the east, Sharon Road and Fairview Road to the south, and Park Road and Little Sugar Creek to the west. The majority of shopping complexes are in the southern part of the neighborhood along Fairview Road, Sharon Road, Barclay Downs Road, and Morrison Boulevard, so these streets may have more high-speed or congested traffic.
Other nearby greenways include Park Road Park, Marion Diehl Park, Madison Central Park, Little Sugar Creek Greenway, and Carmel Road Neighborhood Park. Most of these parks have playgrounds, benches, and paved walking paths. Little Sugar Creek Greenway, however, has a well-maintained walking trail that runs through it and connects to other Charlotte neighborhoods.
Unfortunately, the nearest dog park is seven miles to the south. William R. Davie Regional Dog Park, located in William R. Davie Park, is a five-acre, fenced-in park with separate areas for both smaller and larger breeds.
