The weather in Jersey City is usually pleasant for walking in spring and fall. Summers are generally sunny, however, humidity and heat can create stressful walking conditions and winters can be cold and wet requiring warm, waterproof outerwear.
Most of the area consists of single-family and multi-family homes. There is also a housing complex, the Marion Gardens Housing Project. Many buildings are character homes and older commercial buildings, however, there has been some new development as well. Historical buildings display architectural features from their respective eras. Residential areas have plenty of landscaping, usually behind homes, with residences placed closely together and relatively near street fronts. There are trees along streets to provide shade when walking.
A major freeway lies on the west side of the neighborhood and should be avoided when walking with your dog. Some light manufacturing and commercial areas that lack natural landscaping are not desirable pedestrian routes.
Lincoln Park is located just to the south of Marion. This spacious park includes a paved, tree-lined walking path around the perimeter which skirts around athletic fields and facilities and includes a fountain and seating areas. There is also an enclosed dog park here for off-leash fun with your pup.
Canco Park is a small green space located in the neighborhood with seating for resting on hot summer days while Lapointe Park has playground equipment and a circular feature with lots of shade trees and seating, making it a great place to stop and share a snack with your pup. Gateway Park is located to the east and has recreational and athletic facilities, but also a large property with trees and paved pathways. You can stroll the park with your pooch and take in the activities. Leonard Gordon Park to the north has large open spaces and shade trees with paved walking paths to enjoy with your pooch.
