Ridgewood is a town north of New York in Bergen, New Jersey. The northeast area is north of Downtown East Ridgewood Avenue and east of North Maple Avenue. Although less well known than the commercial Downtown district of Ridgewood, the northeast provides just as good an experience for dog owners with its beautiful leafy streets and numerous green spaces ready for exploring.

The northeast is also not scant of dog-friendly amenities with pet stores such as Wholistic Paws Ridgewood which provides species-specific meals as they claim it makes your pooch healthier and can reduce vet bills! Find out more about this in their store on Chestnut Street. After visiting this store, you may want a bite to eat yourself, so you can visit one of the dog-friendly restaurants in northeast Ridgewood such as the Italian Sicilian Sun. It’s safe to say that northeast Ridgewood has something for all of its visitors, including four-legged furry ones.

Northeast Ridgewood, unlike its Downtown district, is primarily a residential area with houses, schools, and parks covering the land area. The terrain here is mainly flat with even sidewalks where your pooch must be kept on the leash. However, the terrain means this area is perfect for less intense strolls or for walking long distances. Sneakers or sandals are fine for wandering here and if you need a place to drop off less enthusiastic family members, Graydon Pool offers an outdoor pool and beach-like area for sunning.

Some of the greenways in northeast Ridgewood such as Twinney Pond Park and North Road Park are forested. The ground is uneven with some areas of incline so hiking boots for you and a towel for muddy paws may be required.

Overall, northeast Ridgewood offers a good balance of residential town environment and green areas for you and your little BFF to enjoy.

Northeast Ridgewood has multiple parks for you and your pooch to enjoy. Along North Maple Avenue are three green spaces. Veteran’s Park and Leuning Park are both bordered by the Hohokus Brook river. Veteran’s Park hosts many activities with hardball and softball fields, an amphitheater, and a play area. It also provides wide open green spaces for you to tire out your pup with the walking track nearly half a mile long. Leuning Park is smaller, but also offers green spaces for your pooch to sniff and explore.

Northeast of these parks off East Glen Avenue is Twinney Pond Park, a beautiful green space that offers views of its pond, a wildlife area, and nature trails. Go exploring in this lovely deciduous woodland! Your pooch will thank you for it. If you are visiting in the winter, be sure to check out the ice-skating rink which is a perfect activity to keep all of the little ones entertained, not just your pooch.
